Letter to the Editor: Support Martinez police officers by voting Yes on Measure X

This November, the citizens of Martinez will be given the opportunity to partner and aid in sustaining the future of the Martinez Police Department by weighing in on Measure X. Measure X means securing retention of our current quality Martinez Police Officers as well as proactively recruiting future quality police personnel.

We know what is paramount to our community, and the quality of life issues our citizens face on a daily basis; the increasing homeless rate, property crimes, traffic concerns, and school safety among the most prevalent. Filling positions such as: school resource officer, community resource officer, traffic enforcement officer, as well as the possibility of putting a qualified investigator into one of several task force opportunities, would only solidify the security of the citizens of Martinez for years to come.

The Martinez Police Department has, for a long time, been on the lower end of Contra Costa County’s law enforcement pay spectrum. The passing of Measure X would help solidify and financially secure the Martinez Police Department for the prospective future. The projected revenue generated from the ½ cent sales tax increase is expected to help propel and strengthen the ability to be selective in replenishing the current Martinez Police Officer deficit. Additionally, it would provide the department with the strength and talent to fill much needed specialty assignments which are currently vacant.

The passing of Measure X means stabilizing the current tumultuous conditions within the department resulting in many officers and administrators working extended hours for multiple days, as well as reporting for duty on what would otherwise be the officer’s day off. This stabilizing measure would aid in reducing officer fatigue, improve morale, and increase time with their families.

The Martinez Police Department and its employees want to continue to provide the quality level of service the city has grown accustomed to. In addition, we would like the opportunity to provide new progressively proactive special enforcement. Passing Measure X will mobilize the police department and give us the fiscal resources needed to provide exceptional service to our citizens.

The members of the Martinez Police Officers Association remain proudly dedicated to serving the city of Martinez. We welcome your support and passing of Measure X in November.

Sincerely,
Tom Breinig
Martinez Police Officers Association President

  1. I had a bike stolen from my yard and even a description of the person who took it. It was like pulling teeth even getting you to come out and file a police report, which I am sure you didn’t bother to follow up on. I had to call several times to even get you to come out here.

However I see you out harassing homeless people at loaves and fishes with your parking enforcement officers.

Until you change your priorities and start going after real criminals why should I spend more of my tax dollars supporting you?

    1. That’s because they’re severely understaffed and underpaid. Crimes against people prevail over a stolen bike. I’m sorry but it sounds like you want champagne policework on a beer budget. You get what you pay for.. it’s a great agency with a lot of hard workers that will continually leave until there’s nobody there. You’ll eventually be ran by the sheriffs department with that attitude. Then tell me how great the service is when they tell you they don’t respond stolen bicycle calls, and your response time is exponentially increased.

You need to wake up sir and take the blinders off. You obviously aren’t aware most agencies wouldn’t respond to a stolen bicycle…

      1. perhaps you didnt read my entire post. They have plenty of time to harass people who have parked more than 72 hours in front of their own house and having them towed if they are not moved in that time. they are constantly harassing the poor people who eat at loves and fishes and towing their cars. I mentioned their priorities.

You say they dont have time to investigate a theft, then hth do they have time to drive around and check if people have not moved their own cars parked in front of their own house for more than 72 hours. My neighbor had his car towed for that TWICE costing him over 300 bucks each time.

    2. The mtz police force seemed well staffed when 4 cars responded to my house 2 weeks ago. Apparently a female was out front on Roseann dr. In her car screaming. They commanded me to sit on my porch as they entered and searched my home for atleast 10 minutes. The officer who was guarding me wouldn’t let me speak. I was trying to explain the car had driven off, and I was home alone. When I was asked the type of car and didn’t know, a tall blond heavyset officer aggressively told me I was lying. What is sad is I was trying to be very cooperative. This happened after 1am

      1. I’m glad you enjoyed your Protecting and Serving from our local “heroes”.
Next time; don’t call them, brace the door, and don’t let them in without a warrant.

  2. Tom .perhaps you are not aware that with the shortage of police officers ( there are only 4 on at any given time) not every complaint can be responded to immediately. So, if you want a faster response time and follow to a stolen bicycle you will reconsider your no vote and X and change it to yes. Marta Van Loan

  3. This cop in the Instagram post is a terrible cop. He would rather abuse his power as a k9 officer to intimidate and provoke you to break the law, all while showing the body language off a wwe wrestler who desparatley wants a cage match with you. He is a very petty, angry, short fused man. I have video of him harrasing me and my family while Im sitting in my home minding my own. He uses his search light to peer into your windows while parked in front of your home, after he admitted that I had done nothing illegal and that I was not under any criminal investigation. He is a peice of work. I have seen a martinez pd officer hit a dog in the street at 12 am and keep goin, when I got out there and helped the dog, the SAME cop had come back down the one way street and tried the whole “whats going on HERE ” routine. I said you just hit him and kept going thats what, the officers excuse or alliby was no joke, “i didnt hit him, im just coming from a donut party down at the office”.. at 12.am .. no officer, I saw you hit King Henry the dog and I watch you abuse the homeless and I am one of their would be victims had I not told this guy to go fuck himself. Measure X? HELL NO. The MTZ PD need to grow the fuck up before they get my vote.
