<\/a>The public is invited to a Pleasant Hill-Martinez AAUW (American Association of University Women) Program regarding help for homeless students in the Mount Diablo Unified School District. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 16th at 7 pm at St. Andrew\u2019s Presbyterian Church, 1601 Mary Dr in Pleasant Hill.<\/p>\n

Helping homeless students pursue their education is a full-time job for Social Worker Vivica Taylor. Coordinator of the Homeless Outreach Program for Education (HOPE) in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District, Ms. Taylor will describe the respected decade-old program.<\/p>\n

Most school districts use available federal funds to offer some sort of educational support to homeless students, but MDUSD has been singled out by government agencies, such as the County Office of Education and by various non-profits, for the high level of service it provides and the donations and support it organizes. <\/p>\n

740 students were in the program at the end of the 2018-19 school year. So far this school year, about 360 homeless students have been identified. Students are identified by counselors and principals as well as agencies and non-profits in the community. <\/p>\n
