MARTINEZ, Calif. \u2013 Martinez City Council will get a chance at a workshop today to refine the proposed 2019-21 two-year budget.<\/p>\n

That document needs to be in place by the beginning of the next fiscal year, which starts July 1.<\/p>\n

At its meeting May 23, the Council\u2019s Budget and Finance Subcommittee got a preview of what the full Council will see. Besides the biennial budget, subcommittee members Mayor Rob Schroder and Councilmember Lara DeLaney also reviewed the proposed five year capital improvement program, which covers the years 2019 to 2024, and applications from community organizations which are asking for grants.<\/p>\n

During today\u2019s workshop, the Council will get to weigh in on the budge, and will provide its staff direction to city staff concerning the five-year Capital Improvement Program.<\/p>\n

Because the workshop is considered a special meeting, public comment can be made only on the agenda topics.<\/p>\n

Prior to the workshop, the Council will meet in a closed session to consider multiple topics.<\/p>\n

One is a labor conference with representatives of he Laborers\u2019 International Union of North America Local 324 and Martinez Police Department\u2019s Non-sworn Employees Association.<\/p>\n

The closed session will cover several litigation cases involving the city.<\/p>\n

One case is Felix Sanchez and Nancy Noonan vs. the city; one is the city vs. Kerry Kilmer, Tim Platt, Mark Thomson and up to 25 other individuals; and the third is the case Kerry Kilmer, Mark Thomson and Tim Platt vs. City Clerk Richard G. Hernandez, Contra Costa County Clerk-Recorder-Registrar Joseph E. Canciamilla, the City Council and up to 40 individuals.<\/p>\n

Two cases involve the Friends of Pine Meadow and Tim Platt as an individual vs. the city of Martinez, the City Council, Denova Homes and Civic Martinez as well as up to 20 other individuals.<\/p>\n

Other cases involve Gary Freitas vs the city of Martinez, and Daysh Developments vs. the Carpoffs.<\/p>\n
