Man dies in Howe Road collision

MARTINEZ, Calif. – A 37-year-old man died Thursday night after a passenger car collided with a parked commercial vehicle on Howe Road, according to a statement from Martinez Police Department.

The statement, issued by Sgt. Patrick Salamid and Chief Manjit Sappal, said officers were sent to the 800 block of Howe Road after the department was told of the accident. The officers found the man trapped in the passenger car, the statement said.

He was unresponsive and had to be extricated from the vehicle by Contra Costa County Consolidated Fire employees, the statement said.

Once freed, the man was sent to the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, the statement said.

No other victims were found, and an investigation indicated the man was the sole occupant of the car at the time of the accident, according to the statement.

“The investigation is in the preliminary states, and the victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin,” the statement said.
