MARTINEZ, Calif. – A single-alarm fire burned several portable storage container boxes at a commercial industrial yard at 855 Howe Road early Wednesday, according to information provided by Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
Martinez Police helped evacuate residents, said Steve Hill, public information officer for the fire protection district.
“We dispatched two truck companies and four engine companies along with a battalion chief and an investigator – about 20 firefighters in all,” Hill said.
He described the blaze as an exterior fire that reached and entered the storage sheds of a tree-cutting company. “Apparently a few people were living on the site, hence the evacuations,” he said.
The fire was extinguished at about 12:53 a.m. Wednesday, he said. Firefighters were finished about 3:20 a.m., officials said, and investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
