Martinez Community Foundation accepting grant applications

The Martinez Community Foundation (MCF) is currently accepting grant applications for its fall 2019 grant review. Nonprofit organizations with projects and programs that are located in, or which primarily serve Martinez and its residents are encouraged to submit grant applications. The deadline is Sept. 15, 2019.

Established in 1993, MCF has provided over $682,000 in grants to projects and programs that benefit the community and the people who live and work in Martinez in the foundation’s areas of focus – community services, cultural and community celebrations, economic development, education and the environment.

“The Martinez Community Foundation’s goal is to help Martinez become a better community for residents and businesses, as well as for the non-profit organizations that serve the people who live here,” said Stuart M. McCullough, MCF Board president. “With this goal in mind, MCF makes every effort to provide grants to organizations and projects that align with this goal and distribute the funds in a manner that will provide benefit to the greatest number of people, and to those that will have a lasting effect in the community. We are committed to leaving a legacy. We are unwavering in that effort.”

The MCF Board has awarded grants to such programs and projects as the Martinez Chamber of Commerce, Boys and Girls Club of Diablo Valley, John Muir Association, Loaves and Fishes, Main Street Martinez, Martinez Historical Society, among other worthy programs. Numerous grants, totaling more than $108,000, have also been provided to the Martinez Unified School District for various educational programs and projects.

The MCF does not award grants to individuals, to for-profit organizations or to new or start-up organizations, nor may grants be used for research, administrative or operating expenses such as staff salaries, or for sectarian religious functions. Not-for-profit organizations must have current federal tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status.
