Nathan Turner’s book reception Thursday at old train depot

A reception for Nathan Turner, whose book “I Love California” has a section on Martinez, will take place Thursday in the old Southern Pacific Depot, where visitors can purchase the book and sample area beverages and foods.

Turner is a Martinez native who has pursued a career as a decorator, but also emphasizes entertaining in the homes and other places he designs.

He’s also known for the Bravo cable program, “Million Dollar Decorators.”

Turner’s first book is “Nathan Turner’s American Style: Classic Design & Effortless Entertaining.” But for his second book, he decided to emphasize entertaining, and combined that with writing that is something of a travelogue and a self described “love letter” to his home state.

For his tribute Martinez, he chose recipes that can be made a day in advance, saying these dishes “taste better when prepared the day before. It’s my cozy Italian supper with a California twist.”

Turner lives in Ojai, in a home he’s decorating. He’s been featured in Architectural Digest and is the magazine’s special projects editor, Domino, Vogue, Elle Decor, House Beautiful, Food & Wine, Veranda, Luxe Magazine, C Magazine for which he is a contributing editor, the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times.

His book is being sold on Amazon and at Abrams, Barnes and Nobile, Indie Bound, Indigo and Books-a-Million.

Those attending may decide to have a Hanger One martini, a cold beer from Del Cielo Brewing Company or a glass of wine from Viano’s Vineyards and sample bites from Beaver Creek Smokehouse, Fiona’s Pantry, Taco Daddy’s and Roxx on the Main.

The book signing will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at the Old Southern Pacific Depot, 401 Ferry St. Copies of the book will be available for purchase, and cocktails will be served.

Those interested may send an RSVP through Eventbrite at www.eventbrite.com/e/ nathan-turners-book-signing-tickets-46634837053?aff=ebdssbdestsearch. The booksigning is free.
