MARTINEZ, Calif. – The city of Martinez is accepting grant applications from community non-profit organizations, said Michael Chandler, deputy director of Administrative Services.
“The city has long been a supporter of local nonprofit organizations that serve the Martinez Community,” he said. Its Community Groups Funding Program was launched in March 2007 and continues to provide money to local organizations, he said.
A total of $10,000 from the General Fund and $3,500 from the Recycle Fund was approved last year to underwrite grants that were awarded to 13 organizations.
The next round of applications will be considered for funding in Fiscal Year 201-19, which starts July 1, he said.
Forms are available at the City Clerk’s office of Martinez City Hall, 525 Henrietta St., and online at http://www.cityofmartinez.org/
Applicants must be a community-based nonprofit organization, and they must promote and provide services to residents or to businesses within Martinez.
They must explain how their proposed project or program will serve residents or businesses in Martinez, and the project can’t discriminate based on age, gender, race, religion, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation or socioeconomic background.
In addition, they must identify other sources of funding, because Martinez can’t be the sole funding source for a project or program.
Only written applications will be accepted, and separate applications must be submitted for each project or program. The applications must be complete and must comply with the city’s procedures to be considered for funding.
Those chosen for funding in excess of $1,000 must enter into a funding agreement with Martinez and provide periodic reports describing progress that is made on the project or program. Applicants proposing collaborative projects with other organizations must submit a joint application.
The applications will be screened by city staff then reviewed by the Budget Subcommittee and the City Council, which can request presentations. Those approved will be notified in writing.
Deadline to apply is 3 p.m. Monday, April 16, either in person to the City Clerk’s office or scanned and emailed to CityClerk@cityofmartinez.org.
