Martinez to honor Veteran’s Day

The public is invited to join the Martinez Veterans Commission in honoring all who have served their country in the United States Armed Forces.

The Veterans Commission will host the annual Veterans Day Program, to honor those who have served in the United States Armed Forces, on Monday, November 11, 2019. The program includes two events.

The first ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at the Alhambra Cemetery, located on Carquinez Scenic Drive. This ceremony will include a flag-raising by the Diablo Sea Cadets, a prayer and benediction from the Veterans Commission Vice-Chair, and the placing of the wreath by the Boy Scouts of America Troop 1351.

The official ceremony will resume at Ignacio Plaza, 525 Henrietta Street, at 11 a.m with a flag-raising by the Diablo Sea Cadets, a musical tribute performed by the Martinez Community Chorus, special messages from Mayor Rob Schroder, Supervisor Federal Glover, Senator 3rd District Bill Dodd, Assemblyman District 14 Tim Grayson, and Congressman Mark Desaulnier.

The program will conclude with a three-volley salute by the American Legion Post 29 and the VFW Post 1351, bagpipes performed by Scott Parker and taps performed by Ben Smyers.

A reception will follow immediately after the ceremonies at the Veterans Hall, 930 Court Street. Music will be provided by the Diablo Regional Concert Band.
