Shell Martinez Refinery Makes Lasting Impact on the Martinez Community: Awards Boys & Girls Clubs of Contra Costa a Major Grant for Teen Center Renovations
MARTINEZ, Calif. – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Contra Costa announced they have been awarded a $30,000 grant from Shell Refinery in Martinez to make needed renovations to the Martinez Clubhouse Teen Center.
“We are honored Shell has decided to make a lasting impact on the Martinez community by investing in our teenagers. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Contra Costa are excited to begin renovations and open the Shell Teen Center to serve our teens.” Said Board Chair Emeritus Angela Rundles. “Our new Shell Teen Center will be a space for our teenagers to explore future college and career options. As well as be a safe place for them to develop into responsible adults.”
“The Shell Martinez Refinery, has been a staple in the Martinez community since it opened in 1915 and they have taken their responsibility to be a good corporate citizen seriously. They have strived to not just be a contributor to the community, but a leader in it.” Said Martinez Mayor Rob Schroder. “We are honored they have chosen to make such a lasting investment in our City. Today’s grant to Boys & Girls Clubs of Contra Costa will have a long-term impact on Martinez.”

Teens are at a critical point in their lives, where a great mentor and strong programs can set them on the right path for a bright future. The Shell Teen Center Grand Opening was October 2, 2019, at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Contra Costa Martinez Clubhouse for all Martinez teenagers between the ages of 13 to 18. Programs will prepare teens to apply for college or trade school, teach them about the importance of community service, and of course, be a fun place to just “chill.” The Shell Teen Center will also remain open to 9 P.M. on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s to host a series of fun-safe activities for our teens.
