MARTINEZ, Calif. – Enrollment has opened for kindergarten and transitional kindergarten for the Mount Diablo Unified School District 2019-20 year, which begins Aug. 15.
The kindergarten students would be the graduating class of 2032, and those in transitional kindergarten, the first year of a two-year kindergarten program, would be the class of 2033, said Ursula Kroemer Leimbach, spokesperson for the district.
Parents of children eligible for either kindergarten or transitional kindergarten have several steps to take, Leimbach’s announcement said.
First, they must find their child’s resident school.
Mount Diablo Unified School District (MDUSD) assigns neighborhood elementary, middle, and high schools based on street address where students reside.
It uses school feeder patterns, described as the cluster or family of schools to include a neighborhood high school and the middle school and elementary schools that feed into it, and those are established for students who live in a particular attendance area.
Each MDUSD school has a defined geographic boundary and is intended to serve students who live within that boundary or neighborhood. Neighborhood schools can be determined through the school finder on the district’s website, https://www.mdusd.org/.
For the 2018-2019 school, children must turn 5 on or before Sept. 1 to be admitted to kindergarten. Children who turn 5 between Sept.r 2 and Dec. 2 are eligible to enroll in transitional kindergarten (TK), giving them extended time to prepare for kindergarten.
Enrollment has some requirements, including birth date verification, for which an original birth certificate or a certified copy, passport, or baptismal record must be presented.
Parents may enroll their children online at any time. Parents should print their online enrollment summary upon completion and take it and the required documents to the resident school site. Registration packets are available at the school.
Kindergarten and transitional kindergarten intradistrict transfer applications will be available online only from Feb. 18 to March 18.
