Martinez Recreation Department Job Fair Saturday

The Martinez Recreation Department annual recreation summer job fair will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Rankin Aquatic Center, 100 Buckley St. Interviews will be conducted on the spot.

Among the paid positions available are lifeguards and swim instructors, who must be at least 15; pool manager, who must be at least 18 with at least two years’ experience as a lifeguard; cashiers, who must be at least 16; and ballfield maintenance people, who must be at least 18 and have a valid driver’s license.

Volunteer positions include counselor in training and junior lifeguards, who must be at least 11. All are welcome, especially bilingual applications.

Main Street’s Wine And Chocolate Stroll Saturday

Main Street Martinez’s Wine and Chocolate Stroll will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 9. Tickets are $30 in advance, available online, or $35 cash at the door.

Tickets are available at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/downtown-martinez-wine-chocolate-stroll-2019-tickets-54305049866, and will be redeemed at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Main Street Plaza. Participants will receive a tasting glass, a wine glass charm and a map of participating businesses. Tasting tarts at 1:30 p.m.

City accepting picnic reservations soon

In anticipation of the Martinez picnic season, April 27-Oct. 27, the city’s Recreation Deprtment will start taking residents’ reservations for picnic areas starting at 8 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14.

Non-residents may start reserving picnic areas at 8 a.m. March 1.

A variety of picnic areas are available to accommodate a gathering for a family, group, organization or company picnic, according to the announcement released through Veronica Sepulveda, administrative aide.

Rental fees and deposit amounts vary, and are available online at www.cityofmartinez.org.

Those interested in reserving a picnic site may visit the Recreation Office, on the second floor of Martinez City Hall, 525 Henrietta St., or may call the department at 925-372-3510. In-person reservations will be given priority, and telephone reservations will be taken in the order they’re received.

The recreation office is open from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Reservations Available For Chamber State Of The City Mayor Breakfast

Reservations are being accepted for the State of the City Mayor’s Breakfast, a Martinez Chamber of Commerce event, at 7:30 a.m. Feb. 26 at Creekside Church 444 Fig Tree Lane..

Reservations may be made online at the Chamber website

Cost is $30 per person.

Mayor Rob Schroder will speak at the annual event, which lets attendees learn about the city’s direction and plans for the future.

Ribbon Cutting, New Chamber Members Announced

Slow Hand BBQ, which has moved to 601 Main St., will have a ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

New members of Martinez Chamber of Commerce are New You Dance Center, H&R Block, Passion to the Streets, Junk 2 Gems/OTA, Grodin Financial & Insurance Services, Schmitt & Associates, Rose’s Barber Shop and Sal’s Family Kitchen.

The Chamber of Commerce office will be closed Feb. 18 in observance of Presidents’ Day.

The next Business Mixer will be at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 20 at The GALA, 723 Alhambra Ave. Those attending are being asked to bring a drawing prize and business cards.

Babysitter workshop

Prospective babysitters can learn the skills they will need for the job at a workshop offered by the Martinez Recreation Department. Registration is due Friday.

The workshop will not be teaching cardiopulmonary resuscitation or offer first aid certification.

Open to those 11 to 15, the workshop costs $67 to Martinez residents and $72 to those living outside the city. Those interested may register online through Friday at www.cityofmartinez.org or by calling 925-372-3510.

The workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 15 at Rankin Aquatic Center, 100 Buckley St.
