Homage is a fairly new pizza and healthy foods restaurant with rave reviews, a chef with impressive credentials, and local owners.

The Homage contest is for all ages, runs from August 1 through September 30, and Grand Prize drawing for Disneyland tickets for four is on Sunday, October 6.

Homage Pizzas are made with the best available ingredients, and owners say the most popular dishes are Farmer’s Market Slice of Pizza, Turkey Sandwich, and Farro Beet Salad right now.

Chef Tim Hammock has experience teaching and inspiring others in the kitchen. He received national recognition for 16-years of leadership work at Bay Area Rescue Mission. Many trainees have gone on to work in high-end restaurants and the culinary programs at the Mission.

Hammack is also offering a Pizza Class at Homage July 30, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Introduction to Shaping Dough and Building a Pizza.

Two couples own Homage, Tim and Erin Hammack and Rachel and Eric Ruhe. Rachel described the serendipitous way the business was created.

“We used to go to dinner at their (Hammack’s) house and loved everything Tim cooked,” she said. “Tim has been to culinary school and worked at Bouchon, Chez Panisse Cafe, Cesar, and at Compenere Fine Catering…He changed his job, and we decided to join forces to open a restaurant here.”

“The good news about our partnership is that we all have our strengths,” she observed. “Tim cooks, using food to it’s the fullest extent of flavor and freshness.”

Erin Hammack home schools two children and has charge of baking and personnel, Rachel is a CPA who does the finance and corporate work for the business, and Erik Ruhe, does marketing and front operations and is an RN Educator by trade.

“We both have two kids each (a boy and a girl). They love spending time together!” Rachel remarked.

The idea for the name Homage is to bring people together by paying tribute to those greater than ourselves, including those gone before us. We honor age-old traditions, innovations, passions, the natural beauty of created things, and the artisans who make it all possible, according to the website.

“The only thing we have to do now is to get more people to come in the door and taste our food,” she commented. “Families will have fun with the John Muir Quest game!” Homage offers vegan and vegetarian dishes and is eco-friendly.
