MARTINEZ, Calif. – A drawing Wednesday will determine which of the Contra Costa County voting precincts’ ballots cast in Tuesday’s elections will be counted manually, according to an announcement from the Contra Costa County Elections Division.
After each election, one percent of all cat ballots are pulled randomly and counted by hand to verify that scanners have read the ballots correctly, the statement said.
That procedure is required by Election Code 15360, the statement said.
The public drawing will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Elections Division Office, 555 Escobar St.
Then the Elections Division will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, to count those ballots manually. It then will verify the results for the precincts that have been chosen for the procedure. This is a public event, the announcement said, and observers are welcome to attend.
