Without their beloved head coach Gregg Popovich, who missed the last two games due to his wife Erin’s untimely death, the Spurs came back from as much as 16 to bring the game within two with under a minute left in the game in Game 5.
However, Golden State would prove why they are the reigning World Champs when Kevin Durant hit a big basket with seconds left in the Dubs’ 99-91 win ending the series 4-1.
“They don’t give up, they have a lot of pride,” said Splash Brother Klay Thompson afterwards who finished the game with 24-points. Kevin Durant led all Warriors with 26-points.
Now #2 Golden State will face #6 seed New Orleans who have had ample time to rest and watch the Warriors after sweeping the Trailblazers 4-0 and there is no doubt former Warriors Assistant Head Coach Alvin Gentry is going to use the knowledge he has against his former team.
“The General definitely has some tricks up his sleeve defensively,” said Draymond Green afterwards about Gentry.”But we also have a great coaching staff that will have some tricks up their sleeve as well.”
Game 1 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals, Warriors v. Pelicans will tip-off this Saturday at ORACLE Arena, at 7:30 p.m. on TNT.
