By JESSICA GRISWOLD
Principal, St. Catherine of Siena School
This year marks the 70th anniversary of St. Catherine of Siena School. Since 1949, we have been striving to grow the children of Martinez not just into academically strong students, but socially conscious citizens. We are forever grateful to the Dominican sisters, The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, who built this school for what it is today, to bring Christ’s love to others. The order of the Dominicans are rooted on four beliefs: community, prayer, service, and study. Today, the St. Catherine of Siena School Community are rooted in our faith, our academics, serving others, and being beacons of Christ light to others.
On Saturday, October 5th the Martinez community came together to show their love at support at the school’s 70th Anniversary Celebration, that included the annual Car Show on the Plaza and Sock Hop dinner. and it was a truly heartwarming show of Viking Pride with over 300 attendees representing not just students and parishioners, but alumni, friends, neighbors, and local businesses.
As principal, I am honored to be part of this banner year, and I wanted to thank the community for the overwhelming show of love and support we have received so far this year. This special community of Martinez comes together to support one another, work with each other, and celebrate together. The families, students, and faculty are the heart of this school and it is so wonderful to know we have a whole community of supporters behind us.
A special thank you goes out to:
The Knights of Columbus for cooking the delicious meal; the Young Ladies Institute for guidance to our event chairs; the 7th grade parents for tending bar, and their students for serving and bussing; the Telfer, Liberty, Ochoa, McLaughlin, Palmer, and Dean families for their inspiring enthusiasm for the school; all of the Martinez businesses that donated items; and to all of the St. Catherine families who took time to help set-up and clean-up for this event— we thank you for your patient effort to turn this event into a success.
We hope to see you all at the Auction in February as we continue to celebrate our 70 years with you!
