Undead roller derby recruiting

Undead Roller Derby will be recruiting prospective skaters April 15 in Antioch.

The league trains those who have not skated, but want to learn, and welcomes experienced skaters.

Starting about 10 years ago when Cemetery Mary decided to seek if there was interest in roller derby in the east and central area of Contra Costa County, the league has grown into three teams, a children’s camp and those in training.

The A team is the Undead Bettys, which was the same name the league wore for several years. The B team is the Damned Skaters. Both are women’s teams. The league’s men’s team is the Skaters Grim. Periodically the league offers a training camp for children, Bite Club.

Those learning the rules and techniques of roller derby are The Infected.

The league also recruits and trains nonskating officials and others interested in participating in grass-roots flat track roller derby in other ways. The night also is a scrimmage session.

Those interested in attending the recruitment may visit the Undead Roller Derby Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/events/2074563456124360/,  or email Join@Undeadrd.com to reserve a space at the recruitment night.

Recruitment will start at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, April 15, at Paradise Skate Roller Rink, 1201 W. 10th St., Antioch.
